The theme for the Educators Rising NH 2018-2019 events is inspired by Maya Angelou.
Maya Angelou was an African-American woman who is recognized for her outstanding achievements as a poet, author, civil rights activist, and much more. Maya faced difficult times in her youth, but was able to overcome them with the help of her teacher, Bertha Flowers. Bertha supported Maya by introducing her to the works of inspiring poets and authors such as Shakespeare, Charles Dickens and Edgar Allan Poe. Maya Angelou went on to influence a nation with her literary works and many achievements, including her social activism with Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X. She leaves a legacy of strength, hope, and bravery.
As educators, we must look inside ourselves to recognize and nurture our many talents and strengths. In order to have long and successful careers in education, we must care for ourselves properly in mind, body, and spirit.
This self care will then give us the strength and tools to help our students achieve goals and overcome difficulties, and encourage them to shine from within.
